As part of my self-love journey, I have started to include daily affirmations as a way to encourage myself.
Often, we feel as if there is an overwhelming negative force trying to prevent us from achieving our goals. And let’s face it, none of us want the negativity dominating our lives. The key to combating negativity is using positive meaningful affirmations.
It is a widely known fact that many of us speak to ourselves in ways that we would never dream of speaking to those we love and care about. We are quick to pick out what is wrong in our lives and express the negative feelings we have towards our self.
How many of us have spoken negatively about our bodies or have focused more on what we want to fix then appreciating what we have?
If I asked you right now to make a list of all the things you like about yourself and all the things you wish to improve, I am certain that 90% of us would have a list of “improvements” way longer then the list of things we like.
We tend to speak life into others but we forget to use those same skills when it comes to us. Just think about it, when friends are faced with problem or challenges we are there to offer advice and support. When they come to us with their success stories, we are there to celebrate, encourage and support them. It is important for us to appreciate the positive things in ourselves and celebrate our own success.
Did you know that your mind affects your actions far more than any other physical part of your body? Our minds have the power to help us realise our dreams and the ability to speak them into fruition. There is power in the tongue to speak life or death over any situation.
One of the easiest ways to begin that process is through the use of affirmations. The mind-body connection is strong. Shifting your language can have a profound effect on your lives.
The dictionary describes affirmations as:
- the act or an instance of affirming; state of being affirmed.
- the assertion that something exists or is true.
- something that is affirmed; a statement or proposition that is declared to be true.
So by definition we are using affirmations to declare something over our lives that we want to be true. Another way of looking at it is decreeing and declaring positive things over your life.
What Affirmations Do?
- They motivate.
- They keep the mind focused on the goal.
- They influence the subconscious mind and activate its power.
- They change the way you think and behave, and this can bring you into contact with new people, who can help you with your goals.
- Positive statements make you feel positive, energetic and active, and therefore, put you in a better position to transform your inner and external worlds.
When and How to Repeat Affirmations
- Devote some special times during the day for repeating them.
- Repeat them wherever you are, and whenever you want and have the time.
Affirm with love, faith, feeling and interest. We must feel and believe that our desire has already been fulfilled. This kind of thinking will accelerate its fulfillment.
It is natural for the mind to bring up doubts and negative thoughts, especially if your current environment and situation are very different from what you want to achieve.
Persevere, and do not let your negative thoughts and doubts conquer you.
So when self-doubt starts to rear its ugly head, and you find yourself questioning and second-guessing not only your choices, but who you are, here are some affirmations that can remind you of yourself, your worth and your success.
